Kalamata – A press conference was held today, March 15, at the A49 venue in Kalamata, in the presence of the Mayor of Western Mani, Giorgos Hureas, where final details were announced for the upcoming 13th edition of the Taygetos Challenge, to be held next weekend, on March 23-24, 2024.

The significance of the race for the local community and the promotion of the natural beauty of Western Mani was emphasized by Mayor Giorgos Hureas, who highlighted the active participation and support of the Municipality in organizing the event.

The Mayor stressed the importance of the race for the region’s tourism and its role in positioning the area as a destination for outdoor activities. The race supports the modern perception of travelers’ needs and showcases the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Taygetos and Western Mani. Mention was also made of the care and cleaning of the trails, which, after the race, will be utilized throughout the entire tourist season.

Giannis Avrameas, race organizer, took us back to 2010, the first year of the event, which was the first national trail running race to take place in Greece and served as a test for the development of trail running in the country. The event now attracts over 900 athletes each year.

The race this year will include four distinct races, including the Taygetos Challenge Hansaplast Marathon 40km, the Aquarella Experience 22km, the Taygetos Challenge Basic 10km, and the Independent Fun 5km. More than 1,000 participants are expected to join this year, with athletes coming from around the world.
