Access to Kardamyli

Visitors can choose between three different ways to access the area: by car or intercity bus (KTEL), by air arriving at Kalamata Airport (for participants traveling from abroad), and from there by car or intercity bus (KTEL) to Kardamyli.

By Car

Modern highways now connect Kalamata with Athens, Patras, and other major cities in Greece. The distance from Kalamata to Kardamyli is only 35km, and the scenic route is a delight. From Athens, it’s 275km, and the fastest route is via the Athens-Corinth-Tripoli-Kalamata national road, which takes approximately 2.5 hours. Along the way, there are 5 service stations and corresponding toll stations.

From Kalamata, which is the region’s transport hub, access to even the smallest villages in Messenia is easy. The drive from Kalamata to Kardamyli takes around 40 minutes

Public Transportation

If you choose to travel to Kardamyli via public transportation, KTEL Messinia is one of the safest options. It offers numerous daily routes from Athens, Patras, Thessaloniki, and many other large cities in Greece. KTEL buses ensure a comfortable journey and easy access to your destination. From Kalamata, you can reach Kardamyli by continuing on with KTEL in a journey that lasts around 1 hour, or by renting a car.

The KTEL bus ride from Athens takes approximately 3 hours. There are 12 daily departures to Kalamata, nearly every hour, starting at 06:00.
You can view the full KTEL schedule here.

By Airplane

Traveling by airplane to Kalamata International Airport is typically preferred by international visitors. The airport receives many charter flights during the summer and also has connections with Thessaloniki. Flights to and from Athens are uncommon, as the road connection between the two cities is short and convenient.

If you choose to travel to Messenia by plane, note that the IATA code for Kalamata Airport is KLX, and it is located about 9 kilometers from the city, between the capital of Messenia and the town of Messini, on the national road from Kalamata to Pylos, just west of the railway tracks and near the Pamissos River.
