Experience 22KM
You could say that it is as demanding as the 40km course, albeit with half the elevation gain compared to the Marathon. If not for experienced athletes, it’s certainly a race for well-trained athletes. There are common points in common with the Marathon, such as the Vyros Gorge crossing and part of the route of the Dumbitsa Pass. In this year’s 13th edition, runners will enjoy the descent to Kalyves and from there to the Vyros Gorge where the views are spectacular. This is followed by a 1km ascent through the Vyros Gorge passing the most beautiful point in the gorge, Stenema.
There is great variety in the terrain as it follows asphalt at the start and then stone cobbled paths, trails, heavy dirt roads, passage through the Vyros Gorge and rocky terrain. It is signposted along its entire length and no orienteering skills are required. Continuing on the correct route is aided by the regular signposting of the paths (coloured markings on rocks) and their natural topography where present.
